The classic 12 Year Old Aberfeldy single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in the Highlands. While the label sadly no longer features a red squirrel, it now comes with a rather handsome black and rose-gold colour palate to match the rich, malty flavour profile. Bottle volume: 1ltr -
Sweet pear apple (red delicious) and lighter sherry fruits, like plums and maybe a touch of raisins. Has a mouthwatering “juicy fruit” aroma. Light body otherwise, and not as malty as I expected (more cake-like, if anything). Very slight nose hair burning sensation if you inhale too deeply. Same fruits as the nose, but they seem a bit diluted here. A faint touch of spice coming in now (mainly cloves). Still getting the cake and fruit sensation throughout. Light body overall, with a somewhat watery mouthfeel. Would probably have benefited by a higher ABV, as there isn’t all that much going on at this low proof. A touch of bitterness creeps in at the very end. Certainly on the delicate side for sherry matured. Bottle volume: 1ltr -
Rich, smoky peat arrives first, joined by orange segments, sliced apples and a scoop of coffee ice-cream with toffee sauce. Smoke builds, with a bit more oak-y warmth to it compared to the nose. Sweetness falls into the background. Continued peat embers. Bottle volume: 1ltr -
Fresh honey and candied orange peels, with hints of dark coffee and pear drops. Nuttier than the nose, it's got a core of hazelnut and almond, surrounded by chocolate buttons, apple and fresh ground coffee again. Dried fruit and citrus lasts. Bottle volume: 1ltr -
This is the first release of 2005 vintage Balblair single malt Scotch whisky (which is replacing the 2003 vintage in their core range). An enjoyable expression from the Northern Highlands distillery, matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and of course is presented in Balblair's very recognisable bottles. Classic Balblair nose of oak-y vanilla, chocolate-y malt and light wisps of smoke. Citrus blossom (and citrus peels) mixed with hints of barrel char spice and treacle tarts. Cruach Mhóna is gaelic for a pile of drying peat bricks and follows on from Toiteach (gaelic for smoky) as a peaty offering from Bunnahabhain. Although Islay is famed for its peat, Bunnahabhain's spirit is unpeated (this being an exception that proves the rule). Peat and vanilla, creosote, dried herbs, harbour rope, sweet biscuits and orchard fruit. Sweet and smoky, lemon, salt and pepper. Beneath there's oak and malt and hints of sand dune. Bunnahabhain's Eirigh Na Greine was originally released for the Travel Retail market, with its name meaning 'Morning Sky' in Gaelic. A portion of this single malt was matured in red wine casks, resulting in juicy berry notes throughout, blending well with the wafts of sea salt and orchard fruit. Fairly strong (slightly spicy) for its 40%, but watery consistency. It starts chocolaty and then quickly becomes quite dry and dry, like cocoa powder (the real, not the sweetened). Bitter and short. The bitterness on the back tongue lingers extremely long, bitter almond or so, slightly artificial. Bottle volume: 1ltr -
Dewar’s 12 Year blend is strikingly smooth. Initially, caramel, charred oak, and smoke stand out. The flavors quickly evolve into milk chocolate, dark cherry, vanilla, and orange creamsicle and savory butter. The finish is short and smokey. When I added one regular ice cube, the flavors diluted too quickly, and left me feeling disappointed. I added more whisky and switched to my special giant round ice cube, which chilled the whisky without diluting. The whole experience is like a warm summer night at the drive-in, complete with buttered popcorn and a milkshake. Bottle volume: 750ml -

Flawless bright gold appearance. Very attractive and lifted aroma includes oatmeal biscuit, hints of dried fruits and peat as well as notes of honey. A fresh, clean and light entry has sustained interest, dovetailing into a beautifully balanced, delicately spicy, medium dry mid palate with a flourish of raisin and smoke added to the cereal and honey flavours. Harmony - a rather apt word to describe this well-balanced Japanese blended whisky from the Hibiki range. Hibiki Japanese Harmony is made with malt whiskies from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, as well as grain whisky from the Chita distillery. The whiskies are drawn from 5 different types of cask, including American white oak casks, Sherry casks and Mizunara oak casks. The blend itself was crafted by the Suntory Whisky blending team, led by Master Blender Shingo Torii. An elegant expression, with wafts of honey, orange, a herbaceous touch or two and light oak. A super release from Jameson, with a high proportion of Irish pot still whiskey as well as small batch grain. The result is an increased body and level of richness when compared to the core expression. It's aged in double charred first fill bourbon casks (black barrels). Well worth a look. Rich and fruity with notes of tropical fruits, coconut, nectarines in yoghurt, guava and a thick core of sweet cereals. Thick and full on the palate, with an intense, unctuous creaminess, alongside dates, walnuts and peels. Good peach and coconut notes, and a little cinnamon. Long finish, and very fruity with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg and hints of potpourri. Bottle volume: 700ml -
Produced at the Midleton Distillery, Jameson is Ireland's quintessential Irish blend, a classic. Jim Murray even awarded it an incredible 95 points. A full and floral nose leads with the smooth sweetness of marmalade and fudge before a hint of Madeira and a little cut grass note emerge. Pure Malt Red is a Japanese blended malt in a charming looking bottle! This is made up of malt whisky from the Nikka distilleries Yoichi and Miyagikyo. The result is a fruit, creamy, buttery, and slightly herbal whisky. Of the three Pure Malts, this is the fruity, clean and easy-going one. The nose is clean, fruity and quite nutty. It reminds us of that old American favourite – peanut butter and jelly on toast. Great fruitiness, buttery and clean with hints of cut herbs, sugar and spice. The finish is good, with wonderful balance and not a step wrong as it fades away gracefully on sweet, soft malt and fruit. Bottle volume: 500ml -

There are notes of malted barley and cereal sweetness. The palate is of medium-body and quite smooth. There are well-balanced notes of cereal sweetness and arak, malt extract and aniseed with hints of something herbaceous and a touch of smoke. The finish is quite long with lots of barley.
